President-elect Trump has once again claimed a historic victory, celebrated globally and splashed across headlines everywhere.
Critics have gone silent, opponents are sending congratulations, and lawmakers are rushing to Mar-a-Lago to pay their respects.
But if you look past the fanfare, there’s a different story waiting to be told—a story that Trump and his allies would rather you forget.
Here are the five hidden truths behind Trump’s victory that reveal a very different picture.
1. The Billions of Empty Promises
Trump’s sweeping promises—deporting millions, sealing the Southern border, slashing taxes while increasing defense spending—sound like a bold roadmap to 'Make America Great Again.'
But these pledges come with a monumental price tag Trump conveniently leaves out.
His proposed tariffs could drive inflation even higher, squeezing Americans just as they’re looking for relief.
Ironically, Trump’s promise to reduce the national debt is a classic contradiction. No tax on tips, lower income taxes, and more defense spending? It’s a fantasy budget that no responsible economist has backed.
Republicans now control both the Senate and the House, leaving Trump with no excuses like back in 2016.
Throughout this entire election, he began each rally asking “Are you better off today than four years ago?” Many of his followers may soon find that their answer is a resounding “No.”
Trump has concepts of a plan but no concept of cost.
2. A Toxic Public Image
Trump is not a popular man. A vote for the convicted felon was a vote for change despite the standard-bearer.
52.2% of Americans view Trump unfavorably and that number is pure poison.
He’s got a lot of convincing to do in the days that come. Sure, many Americans plugged their noses and voted for him despite their dislike but they’ll be watching him closely.
People have long justified his racism and sexism by calling him a good businessman and the right choice for the economy.
Once this lie is exposed, Trump will have no cards left to play. Voters have excused his failures before but not again.
The American people will turn on Trump and he’ll finally feel the toxic sting of his infamous unpopularity.
3. Minimal Support from Minority Groups
The rhetoric hurt him. Trump lost a majority of Hispanic voters and only squeaked through with White voters. Alarmingly, only a meager 13% of Black voters turned out for him.
Not only that but Trump lost the over-65 vote (despite winning it back in 2020). It appears Reagan-era Republicans are reluctant to accept a convicted felon and insurrectionist as the next president.
College-educated white voters, women, and younger voters leaned toward Vice President Harris.
For the first time in his prolonged political career, Trump won the popular vote. However, the only group he won decisively were middle-aged white men.
Trump never promised to be a president for all Americans and minority groups across America are well aware of that reality.
4. An Ominous Fascist Turn
Former Chief of Staff John Kelly warned Americans that Trump is behaving more and more like the fascists he admires.
Trump has vowed to persecute political opponents and target critical media outlets. He plans to deport millions and turn a tightly-controlled military on the “enemy within”.
And yet Trump’s fascist threat is being downplayed and diminished by his MAGA allies.
But Americans are starting to recognize his growing fascism and already tried to put limits on his power. That’s why Democrats performed surprisingly well in Senate races and managed to flip key House seats.
People wanted change but were wary of an unchecked, unhinged Trump. They voted for Democrats to hold him accountable and trusted that things would be different this time.
But Trump has power again and that genie can’t be put back in the bottle. The threat of far-right fascism looms as many Americans already fear they made the wrong choice.
5. Dangerous Alliances
Elon Musk and RFK Jr. are rumored to be eyeing prominent roles in the Trump administration, each bringing their own brand of controversy.
Musk funneled over $100 million into the campaign while RFK Jr. directed his depleted supporters to get behind the indicted president.
Trump also promised oil companies anything they wanted in exchange for a billion dollars straight to his campaign coffers.
The former president cashed in on all these backroom deals and more to secure an unbelievable win. Still, it will soon be time to pay up and the costs—environmental, economic, and ethical—will undoubtedly fall on the American people.
Voters forgave him for his love of lobbyists and conspiracy nuts. But when disease ravages this nation and our environment suffers, Americans won’t be so forgiving.
The Hidden Cost of a “Historic” Win
The people have spoken and President-elect Trump can’t believe he’s fooled us again. But the hidden truths behind his victory suggest his win against Kamala Harris might be fleeting and costly.
Voters who believed in promises of a new beginning may soon find themselves disillusioned by the predictable chaos to come.
So while his victory may dominate the headlines today, the war is far from over.
Whether you agree with this perspective or not, my goal here at The Biased Journalist is to challenge readers with different takes on the news.
Today, I’m #TeamDemocrat, exploring why Trump’s win might be a hollow one.
Next time, I’ll be back on #TeamTrump, examining why his victory might indeed be the political shift America needs.
In the meantime, stay critical, stay engaged, and don’t let me fool you too much.
